New Zealand increases pressure on online casino advertising
Authorities in New Zealand are increasing pressure on influencers who promote offshore online casinos.
It is reported that bloggers in the country advertise online casinos in their streams and blogs. These gambling projects are registered in other countries and do not have the right to operate in New Zealand. However, the regulation of online casinos has only just begun in the country, with the first 15 licenses expected to be auctioned in 2026. Therefore, it is clear that all online casinos currently operating in the country are prohibited.
According to the local regulator, influencers will be fined $10,000 for each online casino advertisement.
“It doesn’t seem like a lot of money, but when you think that they’ll be liable every single time they run one of these ads, they could quite quickly rack up,” said Vicki Scott, Director of the Gambling Regulation Service in New Zealand.
