The Eurovision-winning song “Bangaranga” is being registered as a trademark for a casino

Following the conclusion of the Eurovision final, an application was filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) to register the title of the winning track, “Bangaranga,” as a trademark under the gambling category.

It is reported that this trademark will cover areas such as slot machines, gambling chips, and other gambling products and services. It is unknown who exactly filed the application. However, the singer’s representatives stated that someone is trying to use their song for their own benefit.

The applicant is a lawyer who responded by saying that “the popularity of a word does not automatically grant ownership of it as a trademark.” However, other lawyers note that the registration could be challenged on the grounds of bad faith.
