Swedish regulator targets influencers in fight against illegal gambling

Spelinspektionen (the Swedish gambling authority) has cracked down on influencers promoting illegal online casino operators etc.

The regulator found that some influencers were advertising illegal gambling on their online channels (mostly on the Twitch platform). In Sweden, any marketing of illegal gambling aimed at Swedes is prohibited by law.

Ultimately, Spelinspektionen succeeded in getting influencers to stop advertising on this subject.

In its statement, Spelinspektionen explained that the goal for the coming year is to focus on “young people’s gambling and illegal gambling”.

They also added: “The Swedish Gambling Authority will continue to conduct supervision against influencers and other actors who conduct or promote illegal gambling under the Gambling Act.”
