Indonesia prepares stricter rules on online gambling
The Indonesian government is introducing new regulations for online gambling with stricter penalties. Internet providers and fintech companies will now be required to comply with more stringent requirements.
Antara News reports that the Ministry of Communications and Digital Technology has released a draft government regulation on eradicating online gambling. It will include stricter provisions and control tools in the digital ecosystem.
Director of Certification and Supervision of Electronic Transactions Teguh Arifiyadi noted that the regulation will apply to all entities that in any way contribute to the development of gambling. This applies to internet providers, financial technology services, and digital platforms.
The new regulations stipulate that internet providers will be required to implement risk mitigation systems and conduct ongoing monitoring. The government will set stricter compliance standards.
Those who fail to fulfill their obligations will now face stricter penalties, including sanctions against platforms that indirectly support illegal gambling activities.
In addition, the government is focusing on protecting children.
According to Arifiyadi, a significant number of young people are already involved in gambling due to the lack of effective age verification on websites. Therefore, this issue has been raised in order to minimize the impact of online gambling on underage users.
It is said that the project will be fully ready in the near future.
