Finland has developed a formula against gambling addiction
Finland has developed the “2-4-2” formula to help reduce the risks of gambling addiction.
According to the Finnish National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), approximately 70% of the country’s residents have participated in gambling at least once in the last 12 months. Interest in the gambling market is expected to grow rapidly over the next couple of years, and with it, operators’ advertising activities. This was one of the reasons for the recommendation to protect players against the backdrop of gambling industry reform.
What is the “2-4-2” formula?
In this case, the system relies on players’ self-control. The formula is based on guidelines that can help them with this. According to it, a person can spend no more than 2% of their monthly income on gambling. They should play no more than 4 days a month and not be involved in more than two types of games at the same time.
THL says that this model should help players independently and consciously assess their own gambling expenses. In addition to this, the institute has launched a test for players so that they can determine their level of risk of developing a gambling addiction.
