Focus Over Expansion: Why 2B Digital Is Closing Its Media Buying Unit and Doubling Down on Agency Accounts

For the past two years, 2B Digital has been developing its own media buying division and working with traffic from the inside. Today, we are closing this unit and concentrating our resources on the direction the company originally started with — agency advertising accounts.

This is not about scaling back our ambitions. It is a strategic decision to focus on the area where we have the deepest expertise, the strongest product, and the greatest ability to create long-term value for our partners.

Business maturity is not defined only by the ability to launch new units. It is equally important to understand which areas truly create a competitive advantage and which begin to dilute focus and consume a disproportionate amount of resources.

Two Years of Media Buying: Why an Accounts Agency Needed First-Hand Traffic Experience

Launching our own media buying division was a logical stage in 2B Digital’s development.

We wanted to understand advertising infrastructure not only as a provider, but also as a team that launches campaigns every day, scales spend, deals with limits, blocks, replacements, and the operational realities behind performance marketing.

This experience gave us a much deeper understanding of what media buying teams actually need. An account alone is not a complete product. What matters is launch speed, setup quality, fast replacements, stability, support, and the ability to quickly access the required volume.

Working directly with traffic helped us identify weak points in the market and rebuild our internal processes around the real operational needs of our partners.

Why We Are Closing the Media Buying Unit Now

The decision to close the division was not a reaction to one unsuccessful campaign or a temporary drop in performance. It came as a result of a broader analysis of the market, the economics of the business model, and our long-term priorities.

The operating environment for media buying teams has become significantly more complex.

One of the key challenges is competition for strong talent. Smaller companies and startups increasingly have to compete with large holdings for experienced media buyers and team leads. Larger players can offer higher compensation, bigger budgets, and more developed internal infrastructure. For a startup, a hiring mistake or the loss of a strong specialist has a much greater impact.

At the same time, traffic itself is becoming more expensive. Advertising platforms are introducing additional fees and changing their terms, while advertisers are not always willing to adjust payouts and KPIs accordingly. As a result, the costs of traffic, accounts, creatives, technical infrastructure, and team operations often grow faster than margins.

Competition in the auction is also becoming more intense. Many teams work with similar offers, GEOs, and audiences, which means players with more capital increasingly gain an advantage. They can scale budgets more aggressively, test longer, and absorb temporary downturns more easily.

Another major factor is the stability of advertiser partnerships. Some companies shut down, change traffic sources, or stop buying Facebook traffic altogether. Others revise KPIs during cooperation, tighten quality requirements, introduce new restrictions, or reduce volumes. The market also continues to face deductions, delayed payments, disputed quality assessments, and cases where teams are not paid for traffic that has already been delivered.

For media buying teams, this creates serious cash-flow risks. Even a campaign that looks profitable based on internal metrics can become unprofitable after deductions or changes in advertiser terms.

This does not mean media buying is no longer a promising business. But scaling it today requires significant capital, a strong HR function, dedicated management, a diversified pool of advertisers, and a willingness to take on substantial risk.

We could have continued operating this unit. Strategically, however, that would have meant splitting our attention between our own media buying operations and the partners who rely on our advertising infrastructure.

At a certain point, we asked ourselves a simple question: in which area can 2B Digital be not just another market player, but one of the strongest providers?

The answer was clear — agency accounts.

This is the direction 2B Digital was originally built around, and we have been developing it systematically for more than three years. We continue to improve our infrastructure and internal processes, expand opportunities for partners, and strengthen the team’s expertise.

Running our own media buying operation added another important layer to that expertise: we now understand advertising infrastructure not only from the provider’s perspective, but also directly from the buyer’s side.

Closing the media buying unit does not mean abandoning the experience we gained. On the contrary, that experience will now be fully reinvested into strengthening our core product.

Specialization as a Competitive Advantage

A few years ago, the market was moving toward increasingly broad ecosystems. Today, as advertising infrastructure becomes more complex, specialized partners that deeply understand and control their part of the process are becoming more valuable.

That is why we are choosing depth over breadth.

For us, a strong account service means ready-to-use accounts, fast communication and replacements, the ability to provide the required volumes without compromising quality, transparent terms, and a clear understanding of the partner’s economics.

This is where we are now concentrating even more operational and management attention: strengthening the team, increasing available volumes, improving issuance and replacement speed, enhancing support quality, and developing individual terms for larger partners.

Our goal is not simply to be an account provider that teams contact when something goes wrong. We want to become a long-term infrastructure partner for media buying teams.

If your team needs stable agency accounts for Facebook, ready-to-use infrastructure, and terms adapted to your spend volume, the 2B Digital team is open to new partnerships.

We work with teams of different sizes, provide fast account issuance and replacements, and offer individual terms depending on volume.

Contact the 2B Digital team to discuss your current spend, number of buyers, and the optimal setup for scaling.
