About Gambling in Literature: A Selection of Books for media buyers
Bayer is used to working with gambling, but have you thought about books on this topic? A book can be both a great way to relax and a source of additional knowledge for beginners and experienced webmasters alike.
You become a professional not only through practice, but also through theory. Continuous learning is the key to success in any field. There are no limits to knowledge, we always have room to grow, so additional literature will definitely not be superfluous 😉
It is interesting to understand how gambling works. Is there really a philosophy behind it? You can find the answer to this question and much more information in the books from our literary selection 📚
So welcome to the arbitrageurs’ book club, let’s get reading! 🚀
The Theory of Poker
This is probably the most popular book on poker. It can be considered a detailed guide to all the strategies and nuances of the game.
David Sklansky, the author of the book, focuses on the psychological aspects of poker. He explains how to raise bets, how to bluff correctly, when it is better to fold, and so on.
They say that after reading it, many people immediately apply this knowledge successfully in practice.
Bringing Down The House
American writer Ben Mezrich described a real story. An MIT professor and his six students develop a strategy for beating the casino at Black Jack, which later proved its effectiveness when applied in practice.
Incidentally, this book was the basis for the well-known film 21, starring Kevin Spacey and Jim Sturgess. Ben Mezrich, the author of the book, became one of the screenwriters for this cinematic masterpiece.
Fortune’s Formula
If you don’t know what the “Kelly criterion” is, we recommend reading William Poundstone’s book Fortune’s Formula. The author wrote about both the strategy itself and its creators, Claude Shannon and John L. Kelly.
The scientists applied the Kelly criterion (or “fortune formula”) wherever they could: in gambling and stock market trading. And, you know, it brought them a lot of success.
A Man For All Markets
This is an autobiographical thriller written by one of the most prominent mathematicians of our time, Edward Thorp. In the book, he shows how science and self-discipline allow a person to achieve success in any field related to financial risks — from roulette and poker to stock market investments.
The mathematician viewed Wall Street as one of the world’s largest casinos and later applied his mathematical methods and strategies there.
Trading Bases
Another autobiographical work is Trading Bases, written by Joe Peta, a former Wall Street trader. He shares the interesting story of his journey from trading to fantasy baseball betting.
It is truly surprising how an ex-trader ended up in such a specific niche, but he did so successfully. How? Peta adapted his own strategy (an improved version of Moneyball for fantasy baseball) and was able to turn this hobby into a profitable business.
Gambling For Life
Harry Findley is a true phenomenon in the world of gambling: he has repeatedly won where the odds were almost zero. What is the secret — luck, knowledge, skill, or innate talent?
His autobiographical book Gambling For Life, released in 2017, tells the story of a professional gambler who, thanks to his unique ability to predict the results of various sporting events, was able to earn over $20 million.
The Logic of Sports Betting
This book by Ed Miller and Matthew Davidoff explains why you shouldn’t rush when placing bets. Learn how to analyze information competently and turn betting from a regular hobby into a conscious and potentially profitable business. How is this even possible?
The authors explain in detail how the bookmaking market works and reveal numerous insider secrets and techniques that bookmakers use to increase their profits. In general, this publication is a must-read for anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of betting and improve their skills in this area.
In conclusion
We hope you found something interesting in this selection. Something that will help you gain a deeper understanding of the gambling industry and improve your work as a webmaster. And something that will be an interesting and useful distraction, a great replacement for the daily scrolling through social media 😉
