Checking Bots and Channel Security

AFFHUB is here! Today we’re going to talk about Telegram safety. Since this messaging app has long since ceased to be just a messaging app, the issue of fraud has become even more relevant.

Most of us are active Telegram users these days. We use bots, read various channels, and even create our own, since Telegram channels have become another good way to monetize content. In this case, Telegram safety takes on a whole new meaning. Telegram scams, fake Telegram bots, and other unpleasant things that can threaten your personal data are spreading online.

In this article, we’ll discuss how to protect Telegram channels, check Telegram bot, bot verification, and provide general tips on channel security.

Telegram fraud

Fake Telegram Bots: Check Telegram bot

Fake Telegram bots have become one of the scammers’ tools. It’s often very hard to tell whether you’re dealing with a real bot or a fake. That’s why there’s a way to verify a bot’s authenticity.

Types of fake Telegram bots:

  • Fake bot. Scammers often create counterfeit versions of real bots. These can be fake bots for government agencies, companies, or famous people. Its goal, like most of the others, is to steal your money or data. These bots are the easiest to spot. After all, each one has a unique name. All you need to do is visit the website or channel of the company/blogger/institution and check the name. Very often, scammers change a single letter or symbol to make everything look plausible. So pay a little more attention to this and find out the truth.
  • Casino bots. Very often, fake bots offer easy money. For example, they scam casinos (an old scheme, but it still works). If an unknown person asks you to join a bot and make a deposit at a Telegram casino—99.99% of the time, it’s a scam on Telegram.
  • Bot exchanges. The scheme is similar, except in this case, instead of casinos, we’re talking about crypto exchanges;
  • Voting bots. This scheme isn’t aimed at getting your money. The main goal here is your data. Scammers create a bot where they ask you to vote for a particular person. But to confirm your vote, they ask you to log into your Telegram account. As you might have guessed, this is how the scammers get your data.

Check Telegram bots: Telegram scams

Usually, the platform itself warns you about Telegram scams. Very often, you’ll see the word “SCAM” next to the name of such a bot. It clearly states that this bot steals data or money from people, and you shouldn’t use it.

Typically, this warning appears after the bot has already managed to deceive users, and they’ve filed a complaint. But, as you can imagine, not all scam bots have this label. We would say that most bots don’t have it. After all, as soon as it appears, scammers immediately create a new bot to avoid trouble and continue their scams on Telegram.

Bot verification can be tricky, but we’ve compiled a list of ways to spot fraudulent Telegram bots:

  • The name doesn’t match the description. For example, when it comes to fakes. You should carefully check the bot’s name and every letter in the tag;
  • The bot offers quick money. Quick money and easy earnings always point to scammers. In these difficult times, you need to understand that there is no such thing as easy money, as sad as that may sound. So we advise you not to believe these fairy tales and not to put yourself in unnecessary danger;
  • The bot asks you to enter a number and a code. If a bot asks for your personal information, and especially asks you to enter a code—it’s a scam. Don’t hesitate—close it and block it;
  • The bot offers to get “government assistance.” The scheme is somewhat similar to “get rich quick” scams. Only instead of casinos, here it’s government or global organizations. Remember that neither will offer you assistance on Telegram.

Protect Telegram channels: Channel Security Tips

Telegram fraud also manifests in the theft and hacking of channels. For many, Telegram channels have become a full-fledged source of income, so in this case, they are particularly at risk of being hacked.

There are various ways to hack a channel. Therefore, we recommend setting up two-factor authentication both for the personal profile linked to the channel and for the channel itself.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an extra lock on your account. Even if an attacker receives the code via SMS, they won’t be able to access the messenger without your personal password. And vice versa—the password alone won’t work without the code. Double protection, double peace of mind.

Settings on iOS:

  • Tap “Settings” (the gear icon in the bottom-right corner)
  • Go to “Privacy & Security”
  • Select “Two-Factor Authentication” → “Set Up a Passcode”
  • Enter the passcode twice, add a hint if needed
  • Optional: add a backup email — only a trusted one with its own 2FA
  • Done — your account is now double-protected

Settings on Android:

  • Open the menu (three horizontal lines in the top-left corner) → Settings
  • Go to “Privacy and Security”
  • Select “Two-Step Verification” → “Set up a secondary password”
  • Enter the password twice. You can add a hint—but make sure it’s something a third party can’t guess
  • Optional: provide a backup email for recovery. Use only a secure email account with 2FA enabled
  • Done—now every new device will require both a code and a password

In summary

Telegram fraud is so widespread because the platform has long ceased to be just a regular messaging app.

The only thing we’ll tell you is: be careful. Spotting a scam bot or channel isn’t that hard. You just need to be a little more vigilant. We understand that tempting messages about easy money, lucrative deals, and the like are more alluring than ever, but in moments like these, you need to bring yourself back to reality.
